This story is a great example of what I enjoy so much in your work: an absurdity as if it were perfectly natural (sometimes your absurdities are playful like this, sometimes serious), and a sharp truth about the human experience. The slightest wink starts now: why would anyone have a blueberry muffin if there were an option for warm corm muffins? That bit of grit, the mealiness on one’s tongue, there’s no comparison. With a corn muffin, you’re really eating something, not just nibbling at fruity cake. Slight wink only, because baked goods are worth taking seriously.
