It makes me sad that I have usual fare, but I have to admit that I do.

I actually got stuck after all the bad stuff started happening to Zip and I thought the ending was going to get very dark. Then I thought about comic book superheroes and how they don’t necessarily win their battles with their powers, but by being clever, so I knew that Zip could turn things around too.

You were doing a few other things at the time, but it’s possible you might remember that this past May, you induced a potato chip craving in a friend of mine. Now Paul’s hungry. You might think about using your powers in connection with a marketing campaign. Talk up dried mango slices until we all want some. Okay, dried fruit isn’t as exciting as a fresh juicy mango, but much easier to ship. For every 4 units ordered, throw in a bag of candied ginger. The slices, please, not the irregular chunks. And for pity’s sake no maple-cured ginger. It’s already ginger, it doesn’t need maple. Okay, I’m into it now. Call me when you’re ready to launch.

Did I ever tell you, I forwarded that Everyday Weirdness link to a few people when I first read it (led there by The Creepy Little Mailbox Man). One was a lifelong Catholic–not one of these just until I got old enough to know better types, but still Catholic 50 years later. In the end I said “what the heck.” She was sure to appreciate the eraser bit. I have a reputation to maintain as one of her more eccentric friends.

She made no comment about the pencil story, but she did stop forwarding me cute animal picture for a couple of months so it was completely worth it. I still owe you for that.

Aw, heck no! The Mango is eating my life right now and not even spitting out the seeds. I’m glad you’re digging it and I’m enjoying the creative challenge, but I’ve postponed all my other projects for this month because of it. Maybe when I’m financially independent and certifiably insane, I’ll do a new show every day forever and ever.

I schedule these to go up one minute after midnight. There was one screw-up a couple of days ago where I saved a draft instead of publishing a post and that one went out at, like, 6:34 am. So go ahead and get up. But I don’t know what you’re going to do after that five minutes of show.

Half a baker’s dozen of I’m-into-this-morning-mango-routine. At what hour do you post these little beauties? Could I kick off the morning earlier than 6ish? Sometimes there just isn’t going to be any more sleep so just get the @%@ out of bed, can you identify with that by any stretch? When I stumble off to the shower, the background soundtrack would be like an old twangy Western song. Later, all squeaky clean, partaking in a glass of juice and the daily dose of brain stimulation through zaniness here, the soundtrack changes to your theme music. Have you considered just keeping it up for the summer?

Actually, to me it’s still West Indian. My ex-wife is from Trinidad. There’s a large black population there and also a large Indian population, so Indian food has permeated the place. I don’t know a good place, sorry. Somewhere in the wilds of Brooklyn, somebody makes some awesome roti. I’ve only had it by way of the former in-laws. But, yeah, try it with roti if you get the chance.

Do you have a disclaimer to include reassuring us no actual goats were harmed for this podcast? Not so much on my account, I usually prefer a goat shorn for my sweater or curried on my plate, but once you attract the animals-are-better-than-you crowd…those are some tenacious people.

I’d gotten the melody wrong in my head and had to go back and watch Desi do it. I tried it four times and went with the best, but none of the others were funny enough to run.

You’re going to think me a Philistine, but I’m not sure that I’d ever heard Siboney before you mentioned it. I listened to the Connie Francis version on YouTube. Gorgeous song! Thanks for introducing me to it. I’m not even going to attempt to sing that one.
